The combination 1-2-Slip-Back Upper-Roll-Back Hook Body is a sophisticated sequence that begins with the foundational boxing entry, utilizes defensive evasion to set up a vertical counter-attack, and concludes with a defensive coil that unleashes a powerful level-changing finish to the torso.

Phase 1: Foundational Entry (1-2)

The sequence initiates with the most fundamental and effective two-punch combination in the sport, designed to establish range and force the opponent to engage defensively.

  • Jab (1): You start with the jab, a quick, straight punch thrown with your lead hand. Its purpose is to measure distance, disrupt the opponent’s rhythm, and create an opening by forcing them to raise their guard. Mechanically, you rotate your front hip into your back leg and extend your front hand straight down the middle.
  • Straight Back Hand (2): Immediately following the jab, you throw the power punch with your rear hand. The force for this strike is derived from the rotation of your hips and torso. The goal is to land with full force while the opponent reacts to the jab, or simply to condition them to defend "down the middle".

Phase 2: Evasion and Vertical Counter (Slip - Back Upper)

After the initial burst, you anticipate a counter-attack and use defensive movement to launch a surprise attack up the center.

  • Slip: You anticipate a quick counter-punch (often a straight) and execute a Slip by shifting your head off the centerline. This evasive maneuver neutralizes the opponent's offense and simultaneously sets up the next attack.
  • Back Upper (Back Uppercut): Immediately after the slip, you fire a powerful counter-punch with your dominant (rear) hand. This punch is designed to come "up the middle" and break through a tight guard. By firing this shot as the opponent comes forward or raises their gloves to defend, you expose the chin or face. To generate the necessary power, you must quickly bend your knees, drop your hips, and fire your hand upward.

Phase 3: Defensive Coil and Level-Change Finish (Roll - Back Hook Body)

The combination concludes by transitioning back to defense to "reload" the body, followed by a devastating strike to the exposed midsection.

  • Roll: You anticipate the opponent’s reaction (likely a hook or straight counter) and execute a defensive head movement by moving your head off the centerline in a U-shaped motion. This is a critical movement because it loads your hips and core, coiling your body like a spring for the next attack.
  • Back Hook Body (Hook to the Body, Back Hand): Fired immediately as you come out of the roll. Since the preceding Back Upper forced the opponent to lift their guard to protect their chin, their body is now exposed. You throw a powerful hook with your back hand aimed at the body, targeting sensitive areas like the liver. Crucially, the momentum and weight transfer from the preceding Roll is leveraged for more force in this body shot, catching the opponent completely off guard while they are still defending high.
