1-2-Roll-2-3-2

This combination, 1-2-Roll-2-3-2, is a highly effective sequence that blends the most fundamental offensive entry with a crucial defensive evasion, utilizing that defensive momentum to launch a devastating, three-punch counter-attack.

Here is the breakdown of the sequence:

Phase 1: Foundational Offensive Entry (1-2)

The combination begins with the most fundamental and essential two-punch sequence in boxing, designed to establish range, distract the opponent, and force a defensive reaction.

  • Jab (1): You start with a quick, straight punch thrown with your lead hand. The purpose of this punch is not raw power, but to measure distance and distract your opponent.
  • Straight Back Hand (2): Immediately following the jab, you throw your power punch straight down the middle. This punch gets its force from the rotation of your hips. This initial burst forces your opponent to put their hands up and prepare for a counter-attack.

Phase 2: Defensive Evasion and Coil (Roll)

After your initial attack, you must anticipate your opponent's reaction and use defensive movement to neutralize their offense while loading your own power.

  • Roll: Anticipating your opponent's straight counter-punch, you perform a defensive roll to your back side (right for an orthodox fighter). This head movement is critical because it not only gets your head off the centerline to evade the punch, but it also loads your hips and core, coiling your body like a spring for the next attack.

Phase 3: Counter-Offense Finish (2-3-2)

This powerful final sequence capitalizes on the stored momentum from your defensive roll and the vulnerability of your opponent following their missed counter.

  • Straight Back Hand (2): This counter-offensive shot is fired immediately as you come out of the roll. Because your opponent’s defense is compromised from their missed counter, the body’s momentum from the roll transfers directly into this shot, giving it extra snap and power.
  • Front Hook (3): Without taking a break, you follow the straight with a lead-hand hook to the head. This punch attacks from an angle the opponent isn't expecting, keeping them guessing and off-balance.
  • Straight Back Hand (2): The combination finishes strong with a final power punch. This straight back hand is thrown to catch the opponent as they turn or adjust to defend the preceding hook, leveraging momentum from the movements to generate rotational force and conclude the sequence with authority.
