1-2-Block-2-Block Body-Back Upper-3-Block Body-Front Upper-Block-3-2
This combination, which I call "Around the World," is a complex drill that integrates blocking and counter-punching in a fluid sequence. It's designed to teach you to absorb a punch, turn it into a counter-attack, and hit all four corners of the upper body. Click here for more details on the science of blocking in boxing.
- Jab (1) - Straight Back Hand (2): The combo starts with the fundamental
1-2
combination. The jab is your setup and range finder, immediately followed by the powerful straight back hand. - Block: Immediately after the
1-2
, you anticipate a counter and block with your front hand. This block should absorb your opponent’s punch to your head. - Straight Back Hand (2) - Block Body: As you finish your block, you immediately throw a straight back hand. Anticipating a body counter from your opponent, you block with your rear elbow as they try to hit your liver.
- Back Upper - Front Hook (3): As you block the body shot, you immediately counter with a back uppercut with your back hand as their head has probably gotten lower to try and hit you to the body, followed by a hook with your front hand.
- Block Body - Front Upper: Anticipating another counter, you block a body shot with your front elbow and follow with another uppercut.
- Block-Front Hook (3) - Straight Back Hand (2): As you finish your last block, as your opponent counters to your head, you launch a front hook followed by a straight back hand to finish the combination.
